I joined Gross’s Men’s Club because I was invited by Mark Wallin, Mark and I have golfed together for years, starting back at Sundance, Mark is a good guy and friend.
I grew up in North Minneapolis, born at North Memorial over in Robbinsdale. My Dad loved sports, so I grew up watching many sports as a kid. I always took a liking to sports. I played a lot of different sports growing up. Football (WR) Basketball (SF) Baseball (P or LF) . . . Bowling, Pool, Softball later in life when I became an adult... HA!
When I was younger I never would have thought I would play golf. When I was 21, my Dad asked me if I wanted to play in a father/son tournament at Sundance where he played since the mid 70’s. I was like, “Sure!” and it was a wrap ever since that because I fell in love with the game. Now that I am in my 40s it’s one of the few sports that I don’t get sore — too sore from anyway —from playing and competing.
When I first started golfing I was the real life Happy Gilmore — 32 handicap shooting 100+ easy. Then I started learning the game and improving. I set a goal to get in the 90s, did that, and lowered the handicap. Then I set a goal to get in the 80s, did that, and lowered the handicap. My next goal is to get in the 70s one day. My low round of my life is 80 and my handicap is down to a USGA 16.
